The 41-year-old suspect - who is a teacher of the victim - was arrested last week Friday after it has been reported that he raped the girl on several occasions between September and October 2020. 

The Provincial Education Department has meanwhile confirmed it has placed the teacher under preliminary suspension following the alleged sexual misconduct. 

The departmental spokesperson, Geoffrey van der Merwe, on Monday told OFM News internal investigations are still underway following the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl. He confirmed the learner and her family is also still receiving psychosocial support. At this stage, it remains unclear as to whether there are more victims at the school or not. 

Police provincial spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, confirms investigations by the SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit into the case continue.
