Spokesperson, Geoffrey van der Merwe, says the Department is working on the placement of learners in schools now, to avoid delays in January.

He says they are pleased that hundreds of parents and guardians made use on the online school application platform and that they can soon expect an SMS from the department confirming admission.

Van der Merwe further appeals to parents to ensure that their children return textbooks to schools as soon as they are done writing final exams to give the department a chance to re-allocate learning and teaching material well in advance.

OFM News previously reported that schools in the Frances Baard and John Taolo Gaetsewe Districts have for years been amongst those that experience an influx of learners in January, with the majority of them struggling to find placement.

Van der Merwe says they launched an online application system in efforts to address this challenge.

He says the placement of learners in schools, and the allocation of learning material to various schools, will now take place before January.
