NC to launch festive season safety plans | News Article

The Northern Cape police will officially launch the Safer Festive Season Operations next week.

The launch, which is set to kick off on Tuesday, is expected to be led by the Provincial Commissioner, Phiwe Mnguni, alongside Premier Zamani Saul and MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Nomandla Bloem.

The launch will come exactly a week before the 1st of December with traffic and crime expected to surge.

Provincial police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, has confirmed that they will be intensifying their crime prevention measures as the country nears the festive period, with increased roadblocks and more police visibility in shopping malls and other public areas.

Meanwhile, Police Minister, Bheki Cele, has during the release of the crime statistics for the second quarter of 2020/21, highlighted the importance of the Safer Festive Season Operations aimed at fighting crime during the festive period.

He indicated that cases of rape, gender-based violence, and murder, amongst others, have increased substantially in the country and that more needs to be done to redress this. Cele has warned that all provinces will be tightening their grip and there will be zero tolerance to any crime this coming festive season.
