Koffiefontein faces water cuts

Koffiefontein faces water cuts | News Article

Residents of Koffiefontein in the Free State will have to brace themselves for water supply interruptions.

This, after the Letsemeng Local Municipality confirmed water will only be restored on Monday due to on-going maintenance work at the water treatment plant. The municipality further confirms water pressure is very low in large parts of the town. Residents can expect water supplied in Jojo tanks and are urged to use water sparingly.

OFM News previously reported that water issues and a lack of other municipal services in Koffiefontein have for the better part of the year been sharply raised by residents who called for the resignation of mayor Sello Bahumi.

Bahumi tendered his resignation amidst pressure from residents last month. He stood accused of poor service delivery including lack of water and electricity supply in Koffiefontein.

OFM News’ Lucky Nkuyane has reported that in September, irate residents of Bolokanang in Petrusburg took to the streets while calling for the immediate resignation of Bahumi over service delivery issues. The community leader, Kevin Lehlohonolo Banda, then said residents have, amongst others, been forced to endure raw sewage and waste refuse that has allegedly not been collected for months, amongst others.
