NW Legislature weighs in on corruption | News Article

The Secretary to the North West Legislature has distanced himself from exorbitant salary hikes amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Oageng Mosiane says allegations that his salary has recently been hiked by R3 million and that of the management team by 51%, are far from the truth.

Expressing concern over a strike, allegedly organised by the National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu), which is set to take place on Monday, Mosiane says it is appalling that there is a planned illegal strike over allegations that have not been proven.

He, in a statement, says he has noted reports that suggest the union’s concerns are centred around the review of the organisational structure, and how it was not engaged when the legislature implemented structural changes. He maintains allegations levelled against the management regarding salary hikes and organisational structural changes are serious and cannot be left unchecked.

Mosiane says “Nehawu is an important stakeholder by virtue of it being the main recognised union at the Legislature” and that they have been engaged of the structural changes contrary to the allegations. He says they are open for talks with the union regarding any concerns.

He appeals to anyone with proof of any corruption allegations to rather approach law enforcement agencies.

Meanwhile, Nehawu is yet to respond to OFM News’ enquiry.
