The Department of Education in the North West is saddened by the deaths of six children within just days of each other.
The Department’s spokesperson, Elias Malindi, talked to OFM News about the unfortunate incident at a time when schools are slowly approaching the end of the academic year.
Three children were found in a freezer on 14 November 2020 in Taung while three more children were found lifeless in an old and unused vehicle on 18 November 2020 at a village near Morokweng.
‘’We wish to convey our sincere message of condolences to the school community and the entire families of those deceased learners. We as a department are extremely affected by the passing of these learners.’’
The police previously reported that an inquest docket for investigation was opened for the three lifeless bodies of the children found in a vehicle after it was said that the grandmother left the children in the yard to attend a funeral service.
However, the police spokesperson in the province, Sabata Mokgwabone, says since the incident the police have determined that no foul play is suspected despite the inquest docket still under investigation.
Mokgwabone says the families of the deceased children from Morokweng informed him that the children were buried on 23 November 2020.
