Safer Festive Season Operations by the police in the Free State are already yielding results with over a hundred law transgressors arrested in Lejweleputswa District alone.
Provincial police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says 138 people were arrested this past weekend with the majority of them arrested for public drinking and the violation of the Disaster Management Act.
Makhele has sent a stern warning to communitues in the Free State against any act of crime as the country nears the festive season. He says there will be zero tolerance to crime. Provincial police commissioner, Baile Motswenyane, has in a statement said alcohol is the main contributor to crime and reiterated that consumers need to drink responsibly and adhere to Covid-19 regulations.
Motswenyane has further expressed concern at the number of people who are seemingly disregarding the Covid-19 pandemic regulations and not taking them seriously, stating that the police will keep ensuring that the Disaster Management Act is observed by arresting those who disregard it as they do with other South African laws.
