#PrellerSquareShooting: Killer threatens accused─── LUCKY NKUYANE 09:30 Wed, 25 Nov 2020
The murder trial of the former CityMed Managing Director, Louis Siemens - who was shot four times in the basement parking of Preller Square in Bloemfontein on 10 May 2018 - has seen several twists of events in the Bloemfontein High Court.
On Tuesday, just after lunch and before the second session of the self-confessed killer and state's key witness Xolisile Botha Mbebetho's testimony, he was threatening to kill the accused Stanley Bakili. Mbebetho, who was seemingly upset with Bakili, told Bakili's legal counsel, Advocate Masilo Koenane, who raised the matter with Judge Pitso Molitsoane, that his client shouldn't be scared for now.
It was, however, his further response to Koenane which raised eyebrows. Mbebetho said if he was to kill Bakili, he would do it after his release from prison. He is serving 22 years imprisonment for shooting and killing Siemens.
During his testimony this week, Mbebetho told the court that Bakili contacted him to kill Siemens. He said he was promised R200 000, which he alleges he never even received.
The security has been tightened around Mbebetho during his appearance at the Bloemfontein High Court. Since his first appearance on Monday to testify for the state, Mbebetho has been ushered to court by at least five heavily armed Department of Correctional Services' (DSC) and Emergency Support Team (EST) officials.
Eight men, including Bakili Molebatsi Mogoera, Kagiso Chabane, Mojalefa Jali Molusi, Moeketsi Lesia, Clive Tshivenga, Karabo Tau and Sizwe Mpati are in court for the alleged murder of Siemens. They are all between the ages of 29 and 56 and include three police officers, a disbarred advocate, an accused in separate double murder cases, and a military man. Mbebetho's testimony is continuing for the third day on Wednesday.
