All eyes on #FSBudget─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 05:40 Thu, 26 Nov 2020
All eyes will be on the Free State MEC for Finance on Friday as she is expected to table the provincial adjustment budget for the 2020/21 financial year.
The budget to be tabled during the Legislature's virtual sitting is expected to shed more light on the provincial government's plans for the remainder of the financial year and on how it plans to intensify it's Covid-19 responses.
OFM News previously reported that two of the biggest Free State Departments - Health and Education - received the biggest slice of the 2020/21 provincial budget.
Following the outbreak of the coronavirus, Finance MEC Gadija Brown in July allocated more funds to them to upscale their performance emphasising the critical role they play in the fight against the pandemic. Brown highlighted how the two departments, with particular emphasis on the Health Department, will need to outperform itself to curb the spread of the Coronavirus.
She subsequently allocated an additional R45.5 million to the Education Department and an additional R667.2 million to the Provincial Health Department, to spend strictly on Covid-19 response measures.
Brown will on Friday address the house on how the biggest departments in frontline of the pandemic have been performing and outline how much more she will be allocating to them.
