#PrellerSquareShooting: Attempts on hitman's life in spotlight | News Article

The self-confessed hitman who killed Louis Siemens, tried to lobby the Bloemfontein High Court Judge, presiding over the murder trial of the former CityMed Managing Director, to let him divulge details around attempts to kill him.

Xolisile Botha Mbebeto, who is serving 22 years in prison for killing Siemens at Preller Square in 2018 in broad daylight in Bloemfontein, says he has evidence about an attempt on his life.

Mbebeto was allegedly hit by a car while in Kimberley, following the murder of Siemens, and was left injured and hospitalised. Since his arrest, he has been imprisoned at an undisclosed location following this alleged attempt on his life.

The state prosecutor Advocate Johan de Nysschen told Judge Pitso Molitsoane that Mbebeto wants to address this attempt on his life but that it should rather be addressed during cross-examination.

Mbebeto also confirmed that while at the correctional facility in Kimberley, he received a letter from another inmate, Manelisi Mpuru, and the letter's content threatened the lives of his girlfriend and daughter.

In this letter, which was read out loud in court by De Nysschen, Mbebeto was informed that "Ace" would pay him R500 000 if he kept his mouth shut. Bakili and seven others, including Molebatsi Mogoera, Kagiso Chabane, Molusi, Moeketsi Lesia, Tshivenga, Karabo Tau and Sizwe Mpati are in the dock for the alleged murder of Siemens. They are all between the ages of 29 and 56 and include three police officers, a disbarred advocate, an accused in separate double murder cases, and a military man. The trial continues on Thursday.
