Gender-based violence (GBV), associated with alcohol abuse, is high and a concern in the Vaal Triangle in Gauteng.
This was mentioned by Vaal police, who today closed a tavern in Sebokeng, after it was found to be operating without the necessary papers. Police confiscated liquor and arrested the owner.
Earlier, Vaal police spokesperson Gertrude Makhale warned residents that criminals targeted people leaving taverns, hijacking and raping women.
The Vaal was mentioned by Police Minister Beki Cele as one of the gender-based violence hotspots in Gauteng.
