NC legislature official in court─── 05:20 Fri, 27 Nov 2020
A senior official of the Northern Cape Legislature is facing criminal charges.
Garth Botha was to appear in the Galeshewe Northern Cape Regional Court on charges of assault of a colleague, following an alleged incident that took place last year. According to the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Mojalefa Senokoatsane, the alleged assault took place late last year and charges were laid in February 2020.
This follows after some staff at the legislature were picketing at the time where the complainant, a junior staff member, was part of the group.
Mojalefa told OFM News that the accused met the complainant in the office of another colleague and confronted her. After the complaint tried to leave the office the accused allegedly grabbed her arm and pulled her back into the office. Botha is currently out on a warning.
Botha’s appearance on Thursday marked his fourth appearance in court, after his first appearance on 8 October.
