Tabling the provincial adjustment budget on Friday, Brown announced that more needs to be done to redress the high unemployment rate in the province and fast-track infrastructure projects that will create jobs and ensure revenue collection.

Brown has confirmed that by the end of October in the current financial year, the province had only spent R21.261 billion, which translates to only 54.4% of the total provincial budget.

She said the Covid-19 pandemic and national lockdown negatively affected the provincial spending as some key project had to be halted.

Brown announced before the House that her department will continue to work with all other departments to ensure that the allocated funds are spent as planned within the current financial year.

OFM News previously reported that she expressed concern over the 35.5% unemployment rate in the province, stating that more has to be done to enhancement revenue initiatives and create jobs in the province.
