FS Health and Education receive more funds | News Article

Two of the Free State biggest departments - Education and Health - are allocated additional funds.

Tabling the provincial adjustment budget for the 2020/21 financial year, Finance MEC Gadija Brown announced that R88.157 million will be paid towards the Health Department while over R115 million will be for Education. She confirmed these are part of the Conditional Grants Roll-overs, as the province received rollovers of just over R227 million to be spent in the current financial year.

Funds for the Health Department relate to commitments funded by the Health Facility Revitalisation grant, while that of Education relates to a number of programmes including the Education Infrastructure Grant, Life Skills Education Grant, Intellectual Disabilities Grant, Maths, Science and Technology Grant as well as for the National Schools Nutrition Programme Grant among other necessities.

"These are rolled over funds and must be expended in the current financial year to avoid further loss of funds. We therefore urge all the departments that have received rollovers to expedite spending and ensure that there is value for money spent in this regard," Brown said.
