Nama fighting to preserve culture─── 07:51 Mon, 30 Nov 2020
The Nama tribe is desperately doing all it can to ensure its language doesn’t die out.
The community of Kuboes in the Northern Cape is now teaching their language to primary school children.
Since the 1950s, children had been discouraged from speaking in their mother tongue because Westerners and specifically teachers, accused them of gossiping.
But now the community is trying to safeguard it.
The tribe also has an agreement with Namibia for students to go study Nama in that country.
