At least 15 #GBV cases in FS gone cold─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:00 Fri, 27 Nov 2020
Families of at least 15 women in the Free State who allegedly died at the hands of men are still waiting for justice to be delivered. This is according to the ANC Women's League's Mangaung Regional Chairperson, Mapaseka Mothibi-Nkoane.
During a picket outside the Bloemfontein High Court to highlight the scourge of Gender-Based Violence, the regional chairperson indicated that these cases have not been dealt with satisfactorily. She says many conferences, dialogues and summits have been convened but the very same decision-makers and implementors have failed to implement their own decisions. Mothibi-Nkoane adds that there is a lack of accountability and no measurement is being used to illustrate the commitment by different stakeholders including the judiciary.
She and ANCWL provincial chairperson, Olly Mlamleli, led scores of women to picket outside the Bloemfontein High Court and the Supreme Court of Appeal against GBV. They demanded justice and matters involving the murder of women to be dealt with speedily.
"Women continue to be at the bottom of the ladder in all sections of the society, particularly in the public and private sector. The success of any state is measured based on its impact on changing the lives of vulnerable groups - our constitution is very clear when it comes to the South Africa we want to live in," Mothibi-Nkoane adds.
She says the name of these women who allegedly died at the hands of men includes; "Ntshidiseng Keletu, Seipati Sejane, Lenah van Wyk, Merriam Prince, Thekile Pula, Naledi Chaka, Thakane Maema, Boitumelo Maleka, Seiso Thabakgale, Thabo Mokokobisi, Omphile Sobehle, Hlonolofatso Morutsi, Seipati Sejane, Ntshidiseng Mosele, and Morongwenyane Letaneta".
Meanwhile, accepting the memorandum of demands from the women's league the Deputy Judge President (DJP) of Free State High Court division, Johan Daffue, said the court will turn its focus to deal with cases of GBV.
