#FestiveSeason: FS police send stern warning─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 08:22 Fri, 04 Dec 2020
The police in the Free State have sent a stern warning against gangsterism and any form of criminality this festive season.
Provincial police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, in a statement highlights how gang members of one of the most notorious gangs in the Free State - the BTK or Born To Kill gang - have been sentenced for murder. Four BTK gang members have each been sentenced to an effective 18 years' direct imprisonment for murder. Makhele says the accused have been sentenced for a crime they committed back in 2018 after they killed one of its former members.
"It was on 30 September 2018 when a former BTK gang member was sitting with his friend at a fireplace in Section U, Botshabelo. At about 00:00, the deceased Malefane Nhlapho went to buy cigarettes from his former gang members. Upon his arrival, they assaulted him and stabbed him to death. They were accusing him of joining another gang and removing a BTK tattoo," said Makhele.
A case of murder was then opened for investigation and earlier this week the accused, aged between 21 and 25, named Moeketsi Letlaka, Retshedisitswe Raleting, Lehlohonolo Ntunga, and Tshediso Makhema were found guilty of murder by the Botshabelo Regional Court.
