Alleged mining contract kickbacks under scrutiny in NC court | News Article

Four accused parties briefly appeared in the Postmasburg Magistrate's Court in the Northern Cape on alleged charges of corruption and money laundering.

The accused include Johan Breedt (51), Mattheus Adriaan Burger (62), Josua Meyer (54) and a juristic person (entity).

These charges are allegedly linked to a mining contract estimated at R203 million awarded to a service provider. It is alleged that Breedt, a former mine manager, received kickbacks over the period between 2016 to 2017 from Burma Plant Hire, Burma Chief Executive Officer Burger, and Meyer, upon receiving the contract.

The alleged kickbacks amount to approximately R600 000. All suspects were granted R20 000 bail and the case was postponed to 19 February 2021.
