This, in demand of their NSFAS allowances. Students at the university have on numerous occasions expressed their dissatisfaction with the decision not to extend allowances for meals and accommodation despite the academic year being extended until January.

Last month, OFM News reported on how the EFF Student Command (EFFSC) picketed at the main gate of the university in Bloemfontein to express these same concerns.

The EFFSC’s coordinator, Khusela Afrika, earlier told OFM News that students who depend on these allowances were entering a crucial time in their timetables with their final exams approaching and they were in high need of the allowances.

Afrika also revealed how they perceive the registration process for NSFAS funding to be rigged. He said this has resulted in some students being de-registered because of the "greed of other students" who allegedly may have better financial backgrounds than others.

The students are expected to gather outside the campus' main gate from 08:00.
