Serial burglar, rapist in FS imprisoned for 100+ years─── 12:00 Mon, 07 Dec 2020
A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to over 100 years' imprisonment in the High Court sitting in Harrismith on Wednesday for a string of house robberies and rape cases committed over a period of ten years.
Thabang Clement Ntsau (40) terrorised the communities of Nemahadi, Tseki, Makwane and Phuthaditjhaba between 2007 and 2017. He would break into the victim’s houses, steal valuable items before raping the helpless victims.
The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation halted Ntsau’s reign of terror when they arrested him on 16 October 2019. He was consequently charged on eleven counts which include burglary, robbery with aggravating circumstances, rape and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Ntsau was convicted and sentenced in the High Court sitting in Harrismith as follows:
For the crimes of housebreaking, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and rape that were reported at Namahadi in December 2007, he was convicted on the first two and sentenced to 15 years and 10 years respectively. He was acquitted on the rape count.
For the crimes of housebreaking and theft that were reported at Makwane in January 2008, he was convicted and sentenced to 8 years imprisonment.
For the crimes of rape, and that of housebreaking and robbery with aggravating circumstances which were reported at Phuthaditjaba in April 2012, he was convicted and sentenced to 10 and 15 years imprisonment respectively.
For the crimes of housebreaking and robbery with aggravating circumstances which were reported at Namahadi in August 2012, he was convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
For the crimes of housebreaking and robbery with aggravating circumstances which were reported at Tseki in January 2013, he was convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
For the crime of housebreaking and robbery with aggravating circumstances which were reported at Phuthaditjaba in September 2017, he was convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
For the crimes of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition which were committed in July 2013, at Allanridge, he was convicted and sentenced to 15 years and 3 years imprisonment respectively.
The national head for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya, welcomed this momentous conviction which clearly indicates that the DPCI is taking the fight against women and children very seriously, considering this occurs during the 16 days of activism campaign of no violence against women and children.
"The combined 121-years imprisonment, which is to run concurrently, demonstrates the seriousness with which the justice system views these types of crimes. While this certified criminal is to serve a total of seventy-five years' (75) direct imprisonment, this should also serve as a deterrence to those who hurt, instil fear and abuse women and children and that their actions will not go unpunished".
