Man dies after assault on NW farm─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:16 Tue, 08 Dec 2020
Five men from North West have been arrested over the weekend for the alleged murder of a man at the Vergenoeg Farm.
The five suspects have since been released on R5000 bail each by the Delareyville Magistrate's Court on Monday. The 42-year-old Petrus Thamaga was allegedly beaten by the accused on Saturday at the said farm near Delareyville after being accused that he was there to steal.
Police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, says following the alleged assault reports, some of the farmworkers contacted the victim’s relative in Ganalaagte Village about the incident. Mokgwabone adds that the victim was then fetched by the relative but he later collapsed and died before he could report the matter to the Community Policing Forum's (CPF) member.
He adds that the incident was reported to the police, who carried out the arrests. The five murder-accused who were arrested over the weekend, include Phillip le Roux (33), Mike Bass (41), Samuel Modukanele (53), Martin le Roux (60), and Paul Michau (70). The group will re-appear on Friday 26 February 2021.
The provincial police commissioner, Sello Kwena, has in the meantime condemned the incident and cautioned that the police will not hesitate to act against anyone who takes the law into their own hands. He commended the police for bringing the alleged perpetrators to book to face the full might of the law.
