With the world observing International Anti-Corruption Day, calls for greater transparency, accountability and consequence management in government spheres are mounting.

As part of this global campaign, the Free State Treasury has joined forces with civil society, academia, and the private sector to look at measures that could be taken to prevent fraudulent activities in both the Provincial Government and the private sector. Spokesperson Tshidiso Mokokoane confirms a virtual meeting is underway between the different stakeholders in commemoration of the day and to ensure that challenges pertaining to fraud and corruption in the province are addressed.

Mokokoane in a statement further outlines the "Provincial Treasury has joined resources with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Standard Bank and the University of the Free State to stimulate and promote an anti-fraud environment".

The Webex Virtual meeting underway in the Free State comes just weeks after the cabinet has approved a national anti-corruption strategy, which will see the establishment of an independent statutory structure that will report directly to Parliament.
