Alleged murderer's bail application postponed─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:32 Wed, 09 Dec 2020
The North West man accused of stabbing and killing his girlfriend in Taung will have to wait a few more days in custody before he can learn his fate after his bail application was postponed.
The 23-year-old murder accused Neo Kgwati made his first court appearance on Tuesday and was remanded in custody until 14 December 2020. He is accused of killing the 30-year-old Thando Velabayi after allegedly stabbing her in the neck with a knife at a local tavern in the Lokaleng Village. Velabayi died on her way to the hospital.
The suspect was discharged from a local hospital after he was seriously injured after being attacked by two men who reacted to his crime.
The murder of Velabayi comes as South Africans are still observing the 16 Days of Activism Campaign of No Violence Against Women and Children.
The incident has since been met with shock and disappointment by an advocacy group in Taung. The Founder and Chairperson of the Taung Men Against Gender-based Violence and Femicide Forum, Tebogo Mokgejane, has expressed shock and dismay after the brutal killing of Velabayi on Friday night.
