Human Settlements allocates funds to NC─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 09:07 Thu, 10 Dec 2020
The Northern Cape is amongst the four provinces set to receive additional funds to address housing backlogs. This, after the Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has availed approximately R588 million to four provinces.
Sisulu has outlined that there is a high need to address housing issues and upgrade informal settlement in the Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape and the Western Cape provinces. The Northern Cape has been allocated R200 million of this amount to deal with the mushrooming of informal settlements and to move dwellers to more developed areas.
Northern Cape Premier Zamani Saul has meanwhile taken to social media platforms to express his gratitude and to vow that the province will use these funds as intended.
Sisulu has further indicated that the provinces should work together with the private sector and the banks to make affordable land stands available for low-income earners.
