FS police officer in court─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 11:27 Mon, 14 Dec 2020
A Free State police officer will appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court in January 2021 facing charges including theft and malicious damage to property.
This, after the office of the 49-year-old Warrant Officer was allegedly broken into in April 2019 and money stolen.
According to the Hawks’ Free State spokesperson, Christopher Singo, the safe inside his office was opened but without any clear marks that it was forced open. Singo in a statement also explains how the state of the door handle to the accused's office was suspicious - suggesting no forced entry.
This suggest the accused possibly staged the crime.
He says over R19 000, that was meant for operational costs, was stolen from the office. The 49-year-old police officer has been served with a summons to appear before the local magistrate court on January 21.
