According to police spokesperson, Adèle Myburg, the victim, who lives with her 50-year-old mother, upon waking up, opened the door of their house where she was confronted by an unknown number of intruders of which one fired a bullet through her chest.

Myburg says after hearing the shot go off the victim’s mother looked through the window and noticed someone standing outside her daughter’s door. She then unleashed their dogs, which forced the intruders to flee.

A case of attempted murder was opened at the Rustenburg police station, and at this stage police investigations continue while no arrests have been made yet.

After the incident the mother of the victim called the dogs back inside, ran to her bleeding daughter and called for help. The 31-year-old woman was then rushed to the nearest hospital as her injuries required immediate medical attention. Myburg explains that the daughter is in a critical, but stable, condition in hospital. The mother is unharmed and their household possessions untouched and secure.
