NW #ANC react to Ditsobotla fiasco─── LUCKY NKUYANE 14:41 Tue, 05 Jan 2021
The ANC’s Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) in the North West says the recent developments in the troubled Ditsobotla Local Municipality, which include Lichtenburg, comes as no surprise.
The committee spokesperson, Kenny Morolong, says the squabbles and the infighting of councillors in that municipality is part of the problems that were earlier identified by the IPC. This comes after a notice by the municipality that it will hold a special sitting on Thursday 7 January to deliberate on the North West High Court’s decision to overturn the removal of the embattled mayor Daniel Buthelezi. Buthelezi was ousted by other councillors during a special sitting on 10 December 2020, four months after the ANC IPC’s instruction that he and other Troika members in the province must recuse themselves from their positions due to several reasons.
On 30 December, the High Court overturned the council’s decision taken on 10 December 2020 on a special council sitting to oust Buthelezi, with ANC members also voting with opposition parties.
The aggrieved mayor then requested the High Court to overturn the decision. He was victorious with the court issuing an order that he must be reinstated immediately, effective from the 31st of December 2020.
