#Covid19: NW retail store ordered to shut doors─── LUCKY NKUYANE 16:00 Wed, 06 Jan 2021
A popular retail store in the North West has been ordered to shut its doors after allegations of flouting the COVID-19 regulations.
The MEC for Health, Madoda Sambatha, says the supermarket was non-compliant but did not give further information on the allegations against the store.
This comes as the department embarked on a two-day campaign to do compliance checks in the Zeerust Central Business District (CBD). The blitz campaign comes amidst the resurgence of COVID-19 in the country where high numbers of infections and deaths have been recorded over the past few weeks.
Meanwhile, the department spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, says Sambatha concluded the two-day campaign on Wednesday.
“Some shops were not compliant and he ordered them to comply or close shop. Law enforcement agencies will do a follow-up to ensure adherence,” Lekgethwane adds.
The department has further indicated that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the North West province is 42 244 with 35 553 recoveries which translate into an 84,2% recovery rate, with 602 deaths. The department further adds that the province now has 6 089 active cases, of which 506 cases were identified in the last 24 hours.
