A Free State ANC Youth League (ANCYL) leader accused of making controversial comments about an RDP house has retracted his comments.
A Free State ANC Youth League (ANCYL) leader accused of making controversial comments about an RDP house has retracted his earlier comments.
The ANCYL provincial secretary, Reagan Booysen, has apologised unreservedly for shaming a fellow Provincial Executive Member's (PEC) house during an argument on social media. During a heated exchange with Sello Theepe on a social media group chat, Booysen mocked the RDP houses by telling Theepe that his RDP house is the size of Booysen's bar, amongst others.
In his apology issued on Wednesday, Booysen says he did not mean to undermine an RDP house per se, which he describes as a product of the democratic government and home to many South Africans. Meanwhile, the ANC Youth League spokesperson, Sello Peterson, previously told OFM News that the party found Booysen's utterances distasteful and had reprimanded both members.
"Whilst I may have been aggrieved by his statements and remarks, I agree that nothing could have justified what I said and how I responded. Whilst the leaked discussion does not provide context and background of the discussion, and whilst it was intended to be an internal ANCYL discussion, I wish to apologise unreservedly to comrade Sello Theepe for the comments I made about the house he has built for his family," Booysen adds.
