This, after 14 people were arrested yesterday for malicious damage to state property, incitement to public violence and contravention of the National Disaster Management Act. 

Police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, confirms the group were amongst a group of approximately 300 young people who were drinking in public on New Year's Eve in Postmasburg at about 22:00.

"Police tried to intervene and were pelted with stones and beer bottles. Three police vehicles were damaged and damages are estimated at R250 000," said Ramatseba.

Following president Cyril Ramaphosa's announcement of a level 3 national lockdown, which is expected to run until January 15, Police Minister Bheki Cele has reiterated that the police will arrest anyone who fails to act in accordance with the law.
