The suspect is known to be the family’s traditional healer. According to police spokesperson, Dimakatso Mooi, the suspect allegedly raped the victim on two different occasions whenever he performed rituals in the victim’s home. 

Mooi adds that the suspect is known for mentoring the mother of the victim through her own journey of becoming a traditional healer.

The suspect is remanded in custody until 20 January for a formal bail application.

The incident was reported on 10  January 2021 shortly after the victim informed her mother of the violation.
