Former North West MEC for Public Works and Roads, Johanna Mmule Maluleka, is set to be laid to rest today.

Maluleka passed away on Friday last week at her village home of Lefatlheng in Mathibestad near Brits after a long illness.

She is to receive a Special Provincial Official Funeral Category Two, with only 50 people allowed to attend the service as per Covid-19 Level 3 Lockdown Regulations.

At the time of her death, Maluleka was the Media Liaison Officer (MLO) in the office of the North West Legislature speaker, Sussana Dantjie.

Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa has instructed that the National Flag fly at half-mast in the North West Province on the day of the funeral.

Maluleke served as a Member of Parliament (MP) from 2009 until 2016. She also served in various National Assembly Portfolio Committees, before being deployed as a Member of the Provincial Legislature, among others. Her funeral service, which will start at 07h00 at Section 6 Lefatlheng in Mathibestad, is also expected to be streamed live on the North West Office of the Premier’s Facebook page.
