The private school group Curro has announced that it plans to reopen its schools on 1 February 2021 nationwide with heightened protocols in place, says the group's spokesperson Marí Lategan.

This follows a discussion held between the school and the Deputy General of Basic Education, Hubert Mweli, with representatives of the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) and the National Alliance of Independent School Associations (NAISA). Lategan says the opening date does, however, remain dependent on the current Covid-19 surge across the country. Parents still have the option to either return their children to school on 1 February or to keep them at home where learning will continue online, says Lategan.

OFM News previously reported on Curro moving to online learning across all its schools nationwide, starting on Tuesday.

“Online learning will continue for Grade 1 to 12 learners this week and each Curro school will communicate specific details to parents, in due course, as arrangements might vary per school,” says Lategan.

Throughout the pandemic, Curro has demonstrated compliance with legislation and prioritised concern for the health of its learners and staff who will remain its utmost priority, adds Lategan. The school says they will continue to play its part in relieving the pressure on the health system to fight the pandemic.
