FS police official due in court for corruption─── 06:45 Thu, 21 Jan 2021
A police official in Odendaalsrus, Free State, was arrested on charges of corruption and is due to appear in the Local Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
Provincial police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, says in a statement that the arrest took place following an incident where the suspect approached a man who allegedly was driving under the influence, demanding R10 000 to ensure the case will disappear.
Mbambo says that necessary authority was obtained and the suspect was arrested after he handed over the original docket to the accused, after which the accused gave him R5 000 in return.
Mbambo is yet to comment on the arrest of a second suspect.
The community is urged to report any corrupt activities by men and women in blue to the Provincial Anti-Corruption division, Mbambo concluded.
