MAP Water employees not reporting to work─── 10:13 Wed, 27 Jan 2021
Shift workers at MAP Water are not reporting to work.
According to Mojalefa Miya, Samwu chairperson in the Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality, which includes Qwaqwa in the Free State, workers want to work but don't have money for transport or food.
This, after they reportedly received less than 72% of their salaries last week Friday.
Miya says the municipality takes advantage of workers.
Affected workers include those working at the water plant, process controllers, pump attendants, and the security officers.
Miya further mentioned that residents have started complaining about filthy water from their taps. He says this is because there are no process controllers and pump attendants at the moment.
However, speaking to OFM News about payments last week, Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Finance, Mandla Tshabalala, said there will be a meeting to come up with a solution.
