More lockdown transgressors arrested in NW─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 10:40 Wed, 27 Jan 2021
The police in the North West have once again arrested Covid-19 lockdown transgressors. This, after a 54-year-old store manager was found with liquor hidden inside potato bags in Brits.
Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says the 54-year-old, together with his client aged 50, were arrested and issued with fines following a search and seizure operation that led to the discovery of the alcohol. Mokgwabone confirms the arrests follows a tip-off they received from the community regarding members of the public who continue to sell alcohol despite the ban imposed by cabinet.
He says the pair were arrested on Monday and the police have since confiscated liquor worth over R16 000. The store manager whose shop is popular for selling milk has been issued with a R5000 fine while his customer was fined R1000.
OFM News has previously reported on how groups of suspects were arrested in the North West and Northern Cape for the same offences.
At the beginning of the month, 14 people were arrested in Postmasburg where a group of approximately 300 young people were drinking in public.
The Provincial Police Commissioners in these two provinces have since sent a stern warning against the contravention of any lockdown level 3 regulations, stating that the police will arrest anyone who fails to act in accordance with the law.
