Videos and pictures showing localised flooding as a result of the heavy rain in the Central South African provinces, which include the Northern Cape, Free State and North West, are doing the rounds on social media.

These videos taken by concerned residents show the extent of flooding in the roads, streets and places such as cemeteries in these provinces.

A resident of Ritchie in the Northern Cape has shared a video showing flooded roads and explained that the heavy rain has left residents with damaged furniture.

A small mining town in the Free State, Koffiefontein, has also experienced localised flooding with some of the residents being moved to a temporary shelter at the Community Service Centre.

The Letsemeng Local Municipality, which includes Koffiefontein, is yet to comment on residents' concerns regarding their stormwater drainage system.

The Mangaung Metro Municipality (MMM) on Tuesday issued a warning to its residents regarding the heavy rain. The municipality spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, urged residents to be cautious on the roads and in their homes.

The South African Weather Services (SAWS) earlier issued a Level 4 warning of disruptive rainfall which was expected to cause localised flooding in these three provinces.

In their official warning, the SAWS said the Level 4 warning includes the western parts of the North West and the extreme north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape, spreading to the western and central parts of the Free State and the eastern interior of the Eastern Cape, expected to result in flooded low-lying areas, disruption of traffic and basic services and damage to agricultural crops and livestock.

Pictures and videos also show flooded roads between Vryburg in the North West and Kuruman in the Northern Cape.
