#BreakingNews: Bfn hospital hours without electricity─── CATHY DLODLO 09:52 Thu, 28 Jan 2021
A power failure in the south of Bloemfontein has left the National Hospital without electricity for more than two hours on Thursday morning.
Public Servants Association's Provincial Manager, Lindsey Pelser, said she received reports from hospital staff that the failure left the hospital without electricity supply.
In the meantime, the Free State Department of Health said the loss of electricity at the National Hospital for more than two hours did not have any adverse effect. The department was reacting after reports that the hospital was left in the dark.
Provincial spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, said the power at the hospital went off at about five o’clock this morning and the hospital’s generators did not kick-in.
Electricity entity Centlec’s spokesperson Lele Mamathu confirmed the power failure to OFM News and said several neighbourhoods in the area have been affected.
Mamatu said they threw the hospital a lifeline by restoring its power while the technical team is still trying to get the rest of the southern parts of the city back on the grid. He said the rest of the neighbourhoods, that include Ehrlich Park, Hospital Park and General de Wet, are, however, still without power.
