Qwaqwa residents advised to store water | News Article
Fika Patso Dam

Maluti-A-Phofung Water has warned the community of Qwaqwa that the Fika Patso Water Treatment Plant will temporarily be shutting down this afternoon.

According to the entity's spokesperson, Tebogo Kwakwa, there's a high level of turbidity which was caused by waterfalls from the mountains.

She says due to heavy rain and floods, the dam became contaminated.

"As such, the water that was produced from the dams was of a very poor quality and it overfilled the plant," says Kwakwa.

She adds they therefore “anticipated that the plant will not be in operation today during the afternoon. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the above-mentioned matters."

She concludes that for more information regarding this, the community members can contact MAP Water on 058-718 1100 for Qwaqwa and 058-623 2115 for Harrismith.
