Intoxicated NW police official dismissed─── 06:39 Mon, 01 Feb 2021
Tsekiso Tshabalala has been dismissed from the South African Police Service (SAPS).
This follows after a video of the apparently intoxicated North West police officer went viral on social media. Provincial police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, says the former Wolmaransstad police official's dismissal follows an internal disciplinary process instituted against him soon after his misconduct on November 28, 2020.
“A video depicting a fully uniformed and intoxicated Tshabalala struggling to stand on his feet to inspect damages to a state motor vehicle after he reversed into a fence at Extension 10, Tswelelang Location in Wolmaransstad, went viral on various social media platforms. The former Constable, who was subsequently arrested and released on R500 bail, is still facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and use of a motor vehicle without the owner's consent. He is due to appear in court on Friday 19 March 2021,” says Sabata.
In a statement, North West Provincial Commissioner, Sello Kwena, described the former member’s conduct as unprofessional and unbecoming, and pointed out that the action taken and the sanction imposed, will certainly send a clear message that the Service will not tolerate members who fail to adhere to the code of conduct.
