#NWfloods: Roads submerged, N18 closed─── 11:53 Thu, 04 Feb 2021
Motorists of Mahikeng, North West, are advised to avoid travelling on the N18 between Vryburg and Taung as parts of the road are closed.
This follows the latest flash flooding incidents, says the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs spokesperson, Dineo Thapelo. In addition, motorists are also warned of flooded roads on the N18 between Tygerskloof and Brussels.
Thapelo tells OFM News that the overwhelming rain has submerged most of the road which is at present not accessible.
She adds that Members of the Disaster Management Team in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati Municipal District have been dispatched to all affected areas to provide the necessary assistance.
Furthermore, she warns that flooding is to be expected in many more areas across the province for the next few days until the heavy rainfall subsides. Thapelo and her team appeal to all motorists to be cooperative with the law enforcement authorities, especially at road closures.
She concludes by warning all motorists, road users and pedestrians to avoid crossing flooded streams and rivers.
