North West ready for #SchoolsReopening | News Article

The North West MEC for Education, Mmaphefo Matsemela, expressed her confidence in the local schools' readiness during her roadshow on Thursday.

This roadshow was undertaken as schools prepare for opening on Monday.

Matsemela visited quintile 1 schools, which are no-fee schools, as well as quintile 4 schools, which are fee-paying schools. She commenced her visit at the newly incepted Boikhutsong Primary School located in the Boikhutsong Village, says Education spokesperson, Elias Malindi.

On arrival, Matsemela expressed her gratitude that the learners of Boikhutsong Village could now attend a school in their area after having to travel long distances, by bus, to attend schools in nearby villages.

OFM News previously reported that in 2018 the Education Department vowed to build a brick and mortar school for the village. The community members are, however, gladdened by the temporary mobile classrooms they’ve been provided with.

On her arrival at the school, Matsemela was pleased with the Covid-19 protocols prepared for learners once schools reopen.

"As I conclude my visit to Ventersdorp, I am encouraging the principals to lead our schools effectively. I have full confidence that our teachers are ready to unleash the curriculum in our schools when schools reopen,” Matsemela said according to Malindi.

The MECs visit further proceeded to Ventersdorp Hoërskool and Kgololosego Secondary School, which are both situated in Ventersdorp.

Malindi says Matsemela is pleased with the preparedness of schools ahead of the opening on Monday 15 February.

Finally, visits to schools in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District, followed by schools in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District are on the agenda next week to further monitor schools' readiness, says Malindi.
