Police spokesperson Adéle Myburgh says that the constables Gomolemo David Phiri and Moses Moshwadiba noticed five men bolting from a cellphone shop in Mooinooi, speedily making their way to a silver getaway vehicle.

Without second thought Phiri and Moshwadiba followed the vehicle using an unmarked car, says Myburgh.

With the assistance of Brits and Hartbeespoort Dam police members the duo incepted the getaway vehicle near Damdoryn outside of Brits.

The suspects were found with two pistols, one revolver, ammunition, cellular phones along with an undisclosed amount of cash.

“Preliminary investigation linked the suspects, aged between 25 and 54, with an armed robbery allegedly committed at the shop, just before they were noticed by the off-duty police officers. It is alleged that the suspects pretended to be interested in buying a cellular phone. However, they allegedly robbed the sales assistant of cellular phones and cash before fleeing from the scene,” says Myburgh.

Myburgh assures that all five suspects were arrested and are expected to appear before the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of business robbery, possession of suspected stolen property, and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
