Police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, says the councillor sustained gunshot wounds to his body. The councillor was shot while inside a car in Zone 1 in the area. The incident took place on Saturday night.

Mokgwabone says the councillor was taken to a healthcare centre for medical treatment but was later transferred to a local hospital. 

So far no-one has been apprehended and the investigation into the matter continues. 

Meanwhile, the ANC Inter-Provincial Committee (IPC) says it is shocked by the incident.

In 2020, OFM News reported that another ANC member, Abbia Modise, was allegedly attacked by a group of unknown people in the basement of the Rustenburg Civic Centre. Modise was admitted to a Rustenburg Hospital with head, facial and body injuries following an attack.

 OFM News
