The ANC's Inter-provincial Committee (IPC) in the North West has called for the arrest of those responsible for the shooting of its councillor in the Ditsobotla Local Municipality, which includes Itsoseng.

The IPC spokesperson, Kenny Morolong, has lambasted the shooting of Keke Mofokeng and further labelled the incident as barbaric. He says they were shocked by the news that their councillor was shot on Saturday evening by an unknown number of assailants. Mofokeng is reportedly recovering well in hospital whilst the police in the province confirmed that a case of attempted murder is being investigated. Morolong adds that in any society, violence undermines the confidence of the citizens in the ability of the state to protect them.

“Violent crime is undoubtedly an attack on the gains of our hard-won democracy. We, therefore, condemn this act of barbarism with the contempt it deserves. Furthermore, we appeal to the general public with information to approach law enforcement agencies and we wish Mofokeng a speedy recovery,” Morolong further adds.

The victim was shot on the upper body whilst in a vehicle in zone 1 in that area. No has been arrested for the shooting of Mofokeng yet. Police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, says the police are investigating the matter.
