The District Commissioner of Ngaka Modiri Molema, Major General Mmatlhapi Mmolawa, welcomed the eight years imprisonment sentence handed down to the 18-year-old female, Kedibone Montsho, for murder.
Montsho was sentenced in the Atamelang Regional Court on Tuesday 17 February 2021 for killing Katlego Gristiph Lesagae in January 2020 in the Shaleng-Morena Village near Delareyville in the policing area of Atamelang. It was reported that Lesagae, who was an 18-year-old Grade 12 learner, had just exited a school bus outside of the school premises when Montsho, then aged 17, approached and stabbed him with an unknown instrument. Lesagae was rushed to the Khunwana Clinic but was certified dead on arrival.
The incident was reported to the police who managed to trace and arrest the accused shortly after the incident.
On sentencing the accused, the court declared her unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act No. 60 of 2000) while three of the eight years imprisonment was suspended for five years on condition that she is not convicted of murder during the period of suspension.
The District Commissioner applauded the Investigating Officer, Sergeant Mosimanegape Selebano, and other roleplayers for their hard work that resulted in the sentence.
