Husband of presenter due in Bfn court | News Article

The 39-year-old husband of Lesedi FM presenter, Dimakatso Ratselane, accused of attempted murder, will on Tuesday know whether he will be released out on bail or not.

Mackenzie Raletsane is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court for the second time since his arrest in Ennerdale in Gauteng last week.

He stands accused of four charges including kidnapping, attempted murder and possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Mackenzie's arrest comes after his wife, Dimakatso, was found near a popular tavern in Caleb Motshabi, known as Dinaweng, in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.

State prosecutor, Sello Matlhoko, last week indicated that the suspect, who was on the run from the law before his arrest, might face additional charges.

The state is looking at soliciting additional statements from witnesses.

Mackenzie appeared briefly before the court last week. He had objected against his images being used in the media but the request was declined with the magistrate indicating that his images had already been in the media prior to his capture.

The alleged former member of the South African Police Service (SAPS) appeared calm in court last week. His appearance was met with protest from members of the ANC Women's League (ANCWL) and members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), led by Provincial Chairperson Mandisa Makesini. They called for a harsher sentence against the alleged perpetrator.
