Opposition parties lash out at Mokgoro ahead of SOPA─── LUCKY NKUYANE 13:04 Wed, 24 Feb 2021
Political parties in the North West have lambasted the alleged lack of leadership by the embattled Premier Job Mokgoro and accuse him of failing to take decisive action against corruption ahead of his State of the Province Address (SOPA) on Thursday.
Both the EFF and the DA are of the view that since Mokgoro took over the reins, he has achieved nothing to improve the lives of residents whilst poverty, unemployment and corruption levels thrive.
The EFF’s Provincial Secretary, Papiki Babuile, tells OFM News when Mokgoro was elected as the premier he made several promises to the people of the North West but he has since failed to deliver on those commitments.
“If we were to give him the benefit of the doubt, we expect him to address the issue of boosting the economy in the province and making sure that he gives feedback on some of the things he addressed in the previous year, on how far he is in addressing those issues,” Babuile adds.
DA member of the Legislature, Freddy Sonakile, says Mokgoro has failed in his bid to address the issues of service delivery, which are still hampering many in the province.
“We believe that there seems to have been a lack of leadership coming from his office in dealing with the political heads, which are his MECs that he appointed in the various departments. This was clear from previous SOPA’s that he delivered,” Sonakile adds.
Mokgoro prepares to deliver his State of the Province Address (SOPA) on Thursday 25 February 2021 as a non-member of the ANC, which is the governing party in the province.
Mokgoro spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, in a statement says Mokgoro has placed the province’s capacity to deliver services to the people of the province, acceleration of the economic recovery, and the economic reform against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, high on his agenda. He is also faced with an internal battle within his party which recently announced his suspension following allegations that he and four ANC member defied the party in the Legislature, and voted with the opposition party, the DA.
