EFF wants NW premier to fire MECs─── LUCKY NKUYANE 14:47 Wed, 24 Feb 2021
The EFF has made a call to North West premier, Job Mokgoro, to reshuffle his Executive Council (Exco) and fire MECs, such as Wendy Matsemela of Education, in the province.
This call comes ahead of the State of the Province Address (SOPA) by Mokgoro on Thursday at the Provincial Legislature. EFF provincial secretary, Papiki Babuile, says Matsemela and other MECs in the province are clueless and are hampering the province from progressing in dealing with issues such as poverty, crime and other service delivery related matters.
He lambasted Matsemela for the poor performance registered by the province in the release of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exam results and blamed her for the province's poor results. Babuile says when Mokgoro took over as the premier they thought he would deal with issues of fraud and corruption in various muncipalities and departments fingered by the Office of the Auditor-General (AG).
“Since the premier took over he said he is going to address the issue of the Mmabatho Airport and to date it is still not operational. He also said he will make sure that all the healthcare facilities in the province are operational but to date, the Jouberton Health Care Facility Centre and the one in Taung, along with the Mahikeng Psychiatric [Centre] are still not operational under his leadership. We still see the roads in our province in a very bad state and tenders being allocated to criminals,” he adds.
Babuile says Mokgoro should tomorrow explain how his administration is going to deal with the high unemployment rate and issues of crime. “Money year in and year out is taken out of this province and given to other provinces,” he further adds.
Earlier, the Ad Hoc Committee chairperson, China Dodovu, on section 100 in the North West, says the committee was concerned over the irregular expenditure from the Department of Education, Public Works, and the Premier's Office. Dodovu said the Department of Education had issued a tender of R25.4 million that was not evaluated by the evaluation committee, and the Department of Public Works and Roads had issued contracts worth R371 million without following proper procurement processes.
