NW taxi rank shooters to appear in court | News Article

The case against 50-year-old Lawrance Mazibuko and 58-year-old Veronica Nodongwe has been postponed to March 8, where both suspects are due to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court in North West.

This follows the duo’s appearance in the same court on Thursday, where they were released on a R1000 bail each. Police spokesperson, Sam Tselanyane, says they were charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit an offence, respectively, after an incident in which a 45-year-old taxi owner was allegedly shot and injured.

Tselanyane says two groups belonging to two different taxi associations operating in Rustenburg and using the same route and platform at the Rustenburg Taxi Rank, allegedly clashed at about 12:00 on Tuesday, 23 February 2021 in Rustenburg North. “The incident occurred at the offices belonging to one of the two associations. During the clash, a 45-year-old taxi owner, was shot once in the back. As a result, he was transported to a local hospital where he is admitted,” he concludes.

Following the incident, Mazibuko and Nodongwe were arrested at the scene.
